Robert Kabet

Obituary of Robert Lee Kabet

Robert "Bob" Kabet lifelong resident of Waukesha made the trip to heaven on March 29, 2024 at the age of 78. He graduated from Waukesha South High School. Bob loved cats, enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, and competed in several bowling leagues at Sunset Bowl in his young and crazy days. He served his country in Vietnam as the radioman for the 196th Light Infantry.  He was proud of his service; and often mentioned that the TV series Tour of Duty was based on his unit, to the point that even the radioman on the show was left-handed. Bob was a stable man who worked at Wisconsin Centrifugal for over 30 years, lived in the same house on Hoover Avenue for almost 50 years and attended services at Trinity Lutheran his entire life, serving as an usher for decades.

Bob was a keen observer of the Waukesha community and kept the family up to date on all developments.  He never drove a car, preferring to ride the Waukesha Metro and talk to the drivers and other passengers.  He had a prodigious memory and would go from rattling off figures for the cost of the new Buchner Pool to reminiscing about time spent in the Boston area during his Army training days.

He was a frugal man who joked he could get change from a penny, but he was generous with his family and always took care of Sue.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; brother Kenneth (wife Shirley) Kabet of Sebring, FL; goddaughter Elena Kabet Popowitch, several nieces and nephews and trusted neighbor Judy Murphy.  He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Veda Kabet, and sister Margaret Willey.
